Vacuum cleaners and vacuum cleaner bags have come a long way since Mr Booth’s horse and carriage machine pulled up outside your house in 1901. The diversity is impressive from powerful compact units to wireless stick units and, of course, the new robot vacuum cleaners. But what does the future hold for us? Let’s have fun with some predictions.

Busting Bugs With Better Filters

High-efficiency particulate air (HEPA) filters and ultra-low particulate air (ULPA) filters will definitely get better and better, especially as mopping up bugs like COVID have become part of our lives. We predict a minimum ULPA 15 filter.

This level of filtering will give you a very healthy home interior.

Bob The Robot At Your Service

Robot vacuum cleaners are gaining popularity year on year and their independent functioning has helped many busy executives. Some have smartphone controls as well as sensors that can avoid dog poop (this raises a whole lot of other questions…), stairs and other items.

We predict Bobs will be smarter and learn where high dirt areas are, will communicate with other robots like a robot mopper and even climb stairs (Dyson has applied for a patent). Robot cleaners have a current challenge with their 15cm threshold limit and being restricted to one floor.

Environmentally Friendly Advancements

Reducing power consumption is very important so we predict that all the vacuum cleaner brands will keep this requirement high on their design specifications list and produce higher suction power from less powerful engines.

Another way to approach energy saving is to change the source of the power. We predict that solar-powered vacuum cleaners will start appearing. It is a great home appliance to have solar power abilities designed into it! While it sits waiting in the corner of your lounge or a storage cupboard in the scullery with a window to the exterior, it can power itself up. Obviously if your whole house is solar-powered then this point is already resolved.

Other environmentally friendly advancements are the use of recycled materials to reduce our landfills. There are already machines made from recycled material such as the AEG VX82-1-ÖKO but we believe more and more brands will come on board with this need.  The VX82-1-ÖKO is manufactured from fifty-five per cent recycled plastic.

Laser Lighting Up Your Life

There’s nothing more frustrating than vacuuming a whole room and then discovering you have missed some spots. Enter laser.  Yes, there are some machines that have LEDs (Rowenta and Philips) near their front facade but laser technology will offer a more powerful illumination of dust particles so that NOTHING can escape your gaze!

Vacuum Cleaner Bags

There is such a strong following for both the with-bag and bagless machines that we believe that both options will continue to be produced. Not everyone likes shaking out canisters and watching dust rise - they will remain supporters of the with-bag machines.
