Food processor belts are model specific. A belt that looks the same length can have a different profile or tooth pitch that makes it incompatible. Match your model number before ordering. Send us a photo of the old belt and your food processor model number if you are not sure.

How to find the right food processor belt

Drive belts on food processors transfer power from the motor to the blade shaft. Getting the wrong belt means either it will not fit or it will slip under load. The belt length and profile must match the original.

Before you order, check three things:

Your model number. It is on a sticker on the base of the food processor. For Kenwood models it usually starts with FP, FDM, or CH followed by numbers.

The old belt dimensions. If you still have the old belt, measure its circumference and note the profile. Flat belts and ribbed belts are not interchangeable. If the belt has snapped, check the motor shaft and blade shaft for any remaining pieces to measure.

The product listing. Every listing states which models it fits. Match your model number to the list before adding to cart.

Signs your food processor belt needs replacing

Watch for these before the motor burns out:

  • The motor runs but the blade is not spinning or is spinning slowly

  • A squealing or squeaking noise during use

  • The belt is visibly cracked, fraying, or has snapped

  • A burning rubber smell during use

  • The food processor works intermittently, cutting out under load

A slipping or cracked belt puts extra load on the motor. Replacing it early keeps the motor running longer and protects the gearbox from strain.

Fitting a food processor belt

Most people have the belt replaced in under 15 minutes. The base of the food processor unscrews to give access to the motor and blade shaft. The old belt lifts off both pulleys and the new one seats in the same path.

Some models require the blade shaft assembly to be lowered slightly to give clearance for the new belt to seat. 

Safety Note

Unplug the food processor before opening the base. The motor and blade shaft are sharp and will move if the machine is powered. Do not attempt belt replacement with the machine plugged in.

How do I know if my food processor belt has snapped?

If the motor runs but nothing in the bowl is moving, the belt has likely snapped or slipped off. Open the base of the food processor and check whether the belt is still in place on both pulleys.

Can I use any belt that looks the same size?

No. Belt length, width, and profile all need to match. A belt that is slightly too long will slip. A belt with the wrong profile will not seat correctly on the pulley. Always match the part to your model number.

My food processor makes a squealing noise. Is it the belt?

Often yes. A worn or stretched belt slips on the pulley and produces a squealing sound under load. Replace the belt before it snaps.

Food processor belts are hard to find locally. Can you get them?

Yes. Food processor drive belts are not widely stocked in NZ shops. We stock belts for common brands and ship NZ wide from Palmerston North.

My Kenwood food processor motor runs but nothing moves. What do I check first?

Check the belt first. It is the most common cause of a motor running with no blade movement. If the belt looks intact, check the blade shaft coupling next.
