Frequently Asked Questions
How often should I replace my vacuum filter?
Every 6-12 months for most vacuums. Got pets or allergies? Every 6 months minimum. Washing helps between replacements, but it doesn't replace replacing. The filter media breaks down over time.
What's the difference between a HEPA filter and a regular filter?
A HEPA filter captures 99.97% of particles 0.3 microns or larger. That includes pollen, pet dander, dust mite debris, and fine bacteria. Regular filters catch larger debris but let fine particles through. For allergy sufferers, HEPA is non-negotiable.
Can I wash my vacuum filter instead of replacing it?
Many filters are washable. But washing only goes so far. Over time, the filter media breaks down and won't trap fine particles effectively even when clean. Replace annually regardless of how often you wash it.
Do I need a genuine filter or will a compatible one work?
Compatible filters work well for most purposes. For true HEPA filtration, especially if you have allergies or asthma, genuine manufacturer filters are more reliable. We stock both and clearly label which is which.
