How to find the right Dyson part

Dyson has made many vacuum models over the years. Filter shapes, hose fittings, brush bar sizes, and tool connections all change between series. A part that looks similar may use a completely different connection.

Before you order, check three things:

Your Dyson model. It is printed on the body of the machine. Cordless models start with V followed by a number. Corded models start with DC or Ball. Write down the full model identifier.

The part type. Know what you are replacing. Filters are the most common replacement. Note whether it is a pre-motor filter, post-motor filter, or HEPA filter as these are different parts even on the same machine.

The product listing. Every listing states which Dyson models it is compatible with. Match your model to the list before adding to cart.

Signs your Dyson needs a new part

Watch for these before performance drops further:

  • Suction has dropped noticeably and emptying the bin did not fix it

  • The brush bar is not spinning or is tangled and won't clear

  • A burning smell during use, often from a blocked brush bar or motor

  • A crack in the wand, hose, or main body that is affecting airflow

The filter is the most common cause of lost suction on a Dyson. Replace it before assuming the motor has failed. A clogged filter makes the motor work harder and shortens its life.

Fitting Dyson parts

Most people have their Dyson sorted in a few minutes. Filters on V series models push in and twist to lock. Brush bars on most models click out with a coin. Floor tools click on and off the wand.
