How to find the right Fisher & Paykel washing machine seal

Washing machine door seals vary in diameter, drum opening size, and the way they attach to the machine and door. A seal from a WH model will not fit a WL or WE model even if the machines look identical.

Before you order, check three things:

Your model number. It is on a sticker inside the door rim or on the back panel of the machine. Fisher & Paykel washing machine model numbers start with WH, WL, WE, or GW followed by numbers.

The seal type. Front loader door seals are the large rubber gasket around the drum opening. Top loader tub seals sit inside the machine around the agitator shaft. Know which one you need before ordering.

The product listing. Every listing states which models it fits. Match your full model number to that list before adding to cart.

Signs your washing machine door seal needs replacing

Watch for these before the leak gets worse:

  • Water dripping from the front of the machine during or after a cycle

  • Visible mould or mildew built into the folds of the seal that cannot be cleaned out

  • A tear, split, or hole anywhere on the rubber

  • The seal is stiff, hard, or has lost its flexibility

  • A musty smell from the machine that persists even after a hot wash

A leaking door seal left too long can cause water damage to the floor and cabinets. A seal with deep mould growth that cannot be cleaned is also a hygiene issue.

Fitting a Fisher & Paykel washing machine door seal

Front loader door seal replacement on a Fisher & Paykel washing machine takes most people around 30 to 45 minutes. The old seal peels away from the drum opening and the retaining spring clips off. The new seal seats into the groove around the drum.

Safety Note

Can I replace a front loader door seal myself?

My door seal has mould on it. Should I replace it or clean it?

Try cleaning first with a diluted bleach solution or washing machine cleaner. If the mould is deep in the folds and will not come out, or if the seal is torn or stiff, replace it.

My washing machine door seal is leaking at the bottom. What causes that?

A small item caught in the seal during a wash is a common cause. Check the folds of the seal for coins, buttons, or debris. If nothing is caught and the seal itself is intact, check that the seal is seated evenly in its groove all the way around.
