How to find the right Microlene filter or cartridge

Microlene offers several cartridge types including sediment filters, carbon block filters, and multi-stage filters. The cartridge must match your housing. Using the wrong cartridge either will not fit or will not filter correctly.

Before you order, check three things:

Your housing model. It is printed on the housing unit under the bench. If you have a Microlene MPP system, you need an MPP-compatible cartridge. 

The cartridge type. Know whether you need a sediment filter, a carbon cartridge, or a multi-stage replacement. The filter type is usually labelled on the existing cartridge.

The replacement schedule. Most Microlene cartridges are rated for 6 months or a set number of litres. Check the rating on your existing cartridge before ordering a replacement.

Signs your Microlene filter cartridge needs replacing

Watch for these before water quality drops further:

  • Water flow from the filter tap has slowed noticeably

  • Water has taken on a flat taste or mild odour

  • It has been more than 6 months since the last cartridge change

  • The cartridge has reached its rated litre capacity

  • The filter indicator on your housing is showing a change reminder

A clogged cartridge reduces flow and can harbour bacteria over time. Replacing on schedule keeps the water clean and the flow consistent.

Fitting a Microlene filter cartridge

Most people have the cartridge replaced in under five minutes. Turn off the water supply to the filter, place a towel under the housing, and unscrew the housing bowl. The old cartridge lifts out and the new one drops in the same orientation. Screw the housing back on and restore the water supply.

Run the tap for two to three minutes after fitting a new cartridge to flush any carbon fines from the new filter before drinking.

Safety Note

Turn off the water supply to the filter before opening the housing. Some filter housings hold residual pressure. Release pressure by opening the filter tap before unscrewing the housing bowl.

How often should I replace my Microlene filter cartridge?

Every 6 months or at the rated litre capacity, whichever comes first. If flow has slowed noticeably before 6 months, replace the cartridge early.

Can I use a different brand's cartridge in my Microlene housing?

The housing and cartridge must be compatible. Using an incompatible cartridge risks leaks or bypassed filtration. Stick with the recommended cartridge for your housing model.

My water flow has slowed even though I just replaced the cartridge. What do I check?

Check that the cartridge is seated correctly in the housing and the housing bowl is hand-tightened fully. Also check the water supply valve is fully open. If flow is still slow, the issue may be with the supply line or the housing itself.
