How to find the right FDM79 part

The FDM79 is closely related to the FDM78 and shares most of its parts within the KW715XXX range. The part code is the most reliable guide.

Before you order, check three things:

Confirm your model number. It is on a sticker on the base of the food processor. Write down the full code. FDM79 variants may include FDM795 or FDM791. All are part of the same range but confirm before ordering.

The KW part code. Kenwood parts carry a code starting with KW followed by six digits. If your old part has this printed on it, match it directly to the product listing.

The product listing. Every listing states which models it fits. Confirm FDM79 or your specific variant appears before adding to cart.

Signs your FDM79 needs a new part

Watch for these across the bowl, blade, and drive system:

  • The bowl is cracked or chipped at the rim or handle

  • The lid locking tab is broken and the safety interlock prevents the motor from starting

  • The chopping blade hub is cracked and the blade is wobbling during processing

  • The drive shaft is stripped and power is not transferring to the blade

  • The whisk attachment is bent or a whisk wire has snapped

The FDM79 safety interlock requires both the bowl and lid to be locked before the motor runs. If either is damaged, the machine will not start. Replacing the damaged component is the only fix.

Fitting FDM79 parts

Most FDM79 parts require no tools. The bowl and blade kit KW715704 is a complete replacement set that includes the bowl, lid, and chopping blade in one. This is the most practical option when both the bowl and blade need replacing at the same time.

The chopping blade KW715708 lifts off the drive shaft and the replacement drops on. The drive shaft KW715711 is accessible from inside the bowl once the blade is removed.

Safety Note

Unplug the food processor before removing or fitting any part. The chopping blade is extremely sharp. Always handle by the hub, not the cutting edge.

My FDM79 motor runs but the blade is not cutting. What has failed?

Check the drive shaft. If the blade spins freely without engaging the food, the drive shaft coupling is likely stripped. Remove the blade and inspect the top of the drive shaft for wear.

Is the bowl and blade kit a good option if both are damaged?

Yes. The KW715704 kit includes the bowl, lid, and blade as a single purchase. If both the bowl and blade are worn or damaged, the kit is more cost-effective than buying each part separately.

Can I get genuine Kenwood parts for the FDM79 in NZ?

My FDM79 lid is cracked. Will the machine still work?

No. The FDM79 safety interlock prevents the motor from running without a properly locked lid. A cracked lid that cannot lock means the machine will not start. Replace the lid before using the processor again.
