The group head seal (also called the shower head seal or steam ring seal) is one of the most commonly replaced wear items on a home espresso machine. Over time the silicone hardens, compresses, or cracks, causing coffee grounds to bypass the portafilter, reducing extraction pressure, and producing an uneven or watery shot. This is the genuine original Breville espresso machine 54mm steam ring seal, part codes SP0001474 and SP0025526 (SP0001474 has been superseded to SP0025526 -- both are the same part). It is also known by the code BES860/02.6. It is the exact original silicone material seal and is recommended to be replaced every 12 to 18 months with regular use.

The 54mm size refers to the portafilter basket diameter. Breville's Bambino (BES450/BES500), Barista Express (BES870), Barista Pro (BES878), Barista Touch (BES880), Infuser (BES840), Duo-Temp Pro (BES810), and Fresca (BES860) machines use a 54mm portafilter. Approximate dimensions: outer diameter 65mm, inner diameter 50mm. This is different from the 58mm seal used on Oracle and Dual Boiler machines. How to Use and Installation Notes

• Switch off and unplug the espresso machine before starting. Allow the machine to cool completely.
• Remove the portafilter from the group head.
• Use a flat-head screwdriver or a group head seal removal tool to lever the old seal out of the groove around the shower screen. The seal sits in a groove at the top of the group head.
• Clean the groove and the shower screen area to remove any dried coffee oils and residue.
• Press the new SP0001474 / SP0025526 seal into the groove, working it in evenly around the full circumference until it seats flat and flush.
• Reinsert the portafilter and test with a blank shot (no coffee) to confirm there is no leaking around the seal.
• Replace the seal every 12 to 18 months with regular daily use, or sooner if you notice coffee grounds in the cup or resistance when locking the portafilter.
