Finding the model number can feel like a bit of a scavenger hunt, as the location varies depending on the type of appliance you have. Most often, you’re looking for a silver or white sticker or a metal plate containing the brand name and technical details. This often has the power rating and compliance information on it.
IMPORTANT: Do not use the user manual for the model number unless the complete model number and serial number have been put on there. The user manual often references a series of appliances, whereas model number parts are model number specific.
Here is a guide on where to look for the most common appliances:
Kitchen Appliances
-
Washing Machines: Check the inside of the door frame or the door itself. If it’s not there, look at the back of the machine or behind the small filter flap at the bottom front. Also can be around where the washing is put in on a front loader.
-
Dryers: Usually found on the inside of the door or the door rim. You can also find the model number on the back of the appliance. Some brands have the model sticker around where you load your washing into the drum.
-
Dishwashers: Look at the side or top edge of the door (you’ll see it when the door is open to load dishes) or behind the kickplate at the very bottom.
-
Refrigerators/Freezers: Most are located on the inner side wall of the fridge section. Some Bosch models have them hidden on the side wall where a bin is. Fisher & Paykel fridge-freezers often have a silver sticker visible when the bottom compartment door is open at the bottom right.
-
Ovens & Cooktops: For ovens, check the chassis frame when the oven door is open, theres often a label around the door seal or frame area. For cooktops, the sticker is usually underneath the unit, which might require looking through the cupboard below.
Small Appliances
-
Microwaves: Almost always on the back panel or inside the door frame.
-
Vacuum Cleaners: Usually on the underside of the main body for bagged models or behind the dust canister/bag compartment on canister models. Battery powered uprights can have it behind the dust container or battery - not the be confused with the battery label itself.
-
Benchtop Appliances (Kettles, Toasters, Mixers, Coffee machines): Look at the base or the underside of the unit.
Quick Tip: If the sticker is in a hard-to-reach spot, use your phone to take a photo. This makes it much easier to zoom in on the specific Model Number and any Product Codes (sometimes listed as PNC or SKU), which are essential for finding the exact matching spare parts.
