Embraco Compressors & Components New Zealand
New replacement Embraco compressors for domestic and commercial refrigeration applications in New Zealand. Embraco units for fridges, freezers, chest freezers, and commercial display cabinets. Parts dispatched from our Palmerston North warehouse.
Embraco compressors are specified by refrigerant type, voltage, displacement, and application. The compressor code on the data plate is the most reliable way to find the right replacement. Send us a clear photo of the data plate and the appliance model number before ordering.
How to find the right Embraco compressor
Embraco produces compressors across a wide range of displacement sizes and refrigerant configurations. Using the wrong unit will result in a machine that runs poorly, overcools, undercools, or fails early. The data plate match is non-negotiable.
Before you order, check three things:
The Embraco compressor model code. It is on the data plate on the compressor housing. Common Embraco codes start with EMT, EGYS, EGAS, NE, or NEK followed by numbers. Write down the full code exactly.
The refrigerant type. It is on both the compressor data plate and the appliance sticker. R134a, R600a, and R290 are the most common. These are not interchangeable and the replacement must match exactly.
The voltage and frequency. NZ mains supply is 230V 50Hz. The compressor must be rated for this. Check the data plate confirms the correct voltage and frequency.
Send us a photo of the full data plate in focus. We will confirm the right unit before you commit to anything.
Signs a fridge or freezer compressor needs replacing
These faults point toward the compressor but a qualified refrigeration technician should confirm the diagnosis before any part is ordered:
-
The appliance is not cooling at all and the compressor motor is not running
-
The compressor starts, runs for a short period, then cuts out
-
The compressor runs continuously but the appliance never reaches temperature
-
A refrigeration technician has tested the compressor and confirmed it has failed
A failed start relay or overload protector can produce identical symptoms to a failed compressor and costs a fraction of the price to replace. Rule those out before ordering a compressor.
Fitting an Embraco compressor
Do not attempt a compressor replacement without a refrigeration technician. Releasing refrigerant without the proper equipment and certification is illegal in New Zealand.
Safety Note
Embraco compressor replacement must be carried out by a certified refrigeration technician. The refrigerant circuit must be properly evacuated and recharged. Releasing refrigerant into the atmosphere is illegal in New Zealand.

Embraco compressor FAQ
How do I read an Embraco compressor model code?
The model code is on the data plate attached to the compressor housing. It starts with letters like EMT, EGAS, EGYS, NE, or NEK followed by numbers. The numbers indicate displacement and application. Photograph the whole label rather than trying to read it in a dark cabinet.
Can I replace an Embraco compressor with a different brand?
Yes, provided the replacement matches the refrigerant type, voltage, frequency, and displacement of the original. The brand does not need to match but the specification does. Your refrigeration technician can advise on suitable alternatives.
How long does it take to get an Embraco compressor?
Common units we hold in stock ship same day. Less common displacements or configurations may need to be sourced and can take a few days. Email us the data plate code and we will check availability before you order.
Do I need a sparky or a refrigeration technician?
Both. The electrical connections need a sparky and the refrigerant circuit needs a certified refrigeration technician. In many cases the same tradesperson holds both qualifications but confirm before booking.
Is it worth replacing an Embraco compressor or buying a new appliance?
For commercial display cabinets and quality domestic appliances, replacing the compressor is usually worth it. For a budget domestic fridge approaching end of life, the repair cost may approach the replacement cost. Your technician can help you make that call.
