How to find the right Fisher & Paykel water filter

This is where most wrong orders happen. Fisher & Paykel uses several filter codes across different models and the same series can use different filters depending on the year of manufacture. Always check the code on your existing filter first.

Before you order, check three things:

The code on your existing filter. Remove the current filter from the fridge and look for the part code printed on the side. Common codes are 836848, 847200, and 81099. Match that code to the product listing.

Your fridge model number. It is on a sticker inside the fridge on the left wall. Fridge models beginning with E442, RF610, RF522, RS90, and RF135 use specific filter types. The product listing will tell you which series it fits.

Signs your Fisher & Paykel water filter needs replacing

Your fridge will usually tell you, but watch for these too:

  • The filter indicator light or icon on the control panel is flashing
  • Water flow from the dispenser has slowed down noticeably
  • The water or ice has taken on a taste or smell
  • It has been more than 6 months since the last filter change
  • The filter was never replaced after the fridge was installed

A clogged filter puts more strain on the water dispenser pump and can affect ice quality. Replacing it every 6 months keeps the water clean and the dispenser working properly.

Fitting a Fisher & Paykel water filter

Most people have the filter swapped in under two minutes. The Fisher & Paykel Fridge Water Filter 836848 twists out anticlockwise and the replacement twists in clockwise until it locks. No tools needed.

The Fisher & Paykel 847200 compatible filter is a push-fit internal cartridge. Press the release button, pull the old one out, and push the new one in until it clicks.

After fitting, run the water dispenser for two to three minutes to flush the new filter before drinking. Reset the filter indicator light through the fridge control panel.

Safety Note

Turn off the water supply to the fridge before removing the filter if your model is plumbed to a dedicated water line. Check your user manual for the specific procedure for your model.
